The Society of Art History, founded in Ýstanbul in 1989, carries on its activities continuously to the present day. The original title, ‘The Society of Art History Graduates’ has been changed to ‘The Society of Art History’in the General Meeting on 19 October 1996.
Goals of the Society:
- To achieve the development of art history as a branch of social sciences in Turkey;
- To foster the conscience of art history in the community, and associate the students of art history;
- To contribute to the education of art history in a modern sense;
- To secure the principles and standarts of various activities and workshops carried on within the same discipline and to observe that they are executed objectively for the benefit of the community in a proper way;
The activities of the Society are:
- To publish books and ect. connected with art history;
- To organize panel discussions, conferences, symposiums and seminaries;
- To organize research tours in and outside the country;
- To act as advisors for the museums and the exhibitions of other institutions;
- To encourage relations, both in theory and application, between like disciplines of archeology, architecture and art history..
